Urban Transportation

The ever-present traffic jam problem and shortage of parking space get on the Moscow driver's nerves and complicate the traffic. But the solution is there: switch to an economy vehicle.

Starting on October 1, 2008, Moscow began its experiment issuing 24,000 rubles worth free fuel cards to everyone who buys a minicar under the Moscow Government Directive 1668-RP ‘Minicar Use Simulation Package Experiment in Moscow’ of July 23, 2008.

Now 15% of car spaces and in Moscow's public parking areas will be dedicated to minis, as regulated by Moscow Government Directive 575-RP off April 3, 2009 ‘Changes to Moscow City Government Directive1668-RP off July 23, 2008.

The project is an attempt to improve the environmental and traffic situation in Moscow.

Why is a baby car so good? First, with the cubic capacity of 1000 to 1500 cubic centimeters, such cars boast great mileage, about 6 L per 100 km. You are already saving money. Secondly, they look just great, so tiny, neat, bright and big-eyed! They get noticed, and many like them. They don't take much space to park, they are quick and maneuverable. Perfect bargain for city driving. Thirdly, they are environment friendly, because their carbon print is so insignificant, mostly within the EURO-3 standard requirements. And finally, Moscow city Government gives a 24,000 rubles worth fuel card to anyone buying a small car.

In addition, car owners with engine output up to 70 hp inclusive are now exempt of the transportation tax in Moscow.
