Neglected Children
Neglected children are one of the key social problems in Russia today. According to the official statistics, Russia has about 2 million homeless children currently. Some of them have no parents, others’ parents have lost their housing and become homeless themselves. Many children used to live in problem families and just had to escape. Causes of child homelessness may be different, but the result is invariably that children left without due custody find themselves growing in the streets, having no shelter, family, love, welfare or education.
Of approximately 28 million children in Russia today, over 700 thousand are neglected. About 2 million adolescents are illiterate, while more than 6 million minors live in socially deficient conditions.
The problem of homeless children is turning into a humanitarian disaster for Russia. Our future is growing on the streets …
The main objectives of the information program to prevent homeless and neglected condition among minors is to focus the public attention on the serious problems of children living without custody, to draw the attention of the government and public institutions to possible ways of helping rehabilitation of children in complicated life situations, to help children find a family, including through the orphaned and no-custody children Federal Database created in Russia.
